Giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma measuring 27 × 29 × 36 cm: a case report

Abstract: Retroperitoneal tumors are rare neoplasms that can reach great dimensions due to a slow growth pattern. Although these tumors rarely metastasize, they have a great risk of recurrence, and majority of times these lesions are a challenge for the surgeon. We report the case of a 63-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of large bowel obstruction and was diagnosed with a large heterogenous mass located in the retroperitoneal space. “…RPS have an overall expected yearly incidence of 0.5 to 1 per 100,000 individuals. 8 LS is the most frequent type of STS, and includes four major histological types, including atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated LS, myxoid/round cell LS, dedifferentiated LS, and pleomorphic LS. 11 Additionally, the well-differentiated LS has five variants, including sclerosing, lipoma-like, inflammatory, liposarcoma with meningothelial whorls, and spindle cell.…”
