“…described seven cases of a distinctive orbital tumour occurring in middle‐aged adults and introduced the term ‘giant cell angiofibroma’ (GCA) of the orbit. Following its initial description, similar lesions have been described in extra‐orbital locations including the posterior mediastinum, 35 the submandibular and parascapular regions, 34,36 the parotid gland, 37 the retroperitoneum, the scalp and the vulva 36 . Subsequently, with experience, many similarities were noted between GCA and SFT.…”

“…Some reported cases of giant cell‐rich SFT show stromal myxoid changes or keloidal collagen deposition reminiscent of amianthoid fibres described in more conventional SFT. Immunohistochemically, tumour cells, including the multinucleated giant cells, are generally strongly and diffusely positive for CD34 35–37 . Most lesions also show immunoreactivity for CD99 and bcl‐2 (80%), 36,37 paralleling the immunoprofile of conventional SFT.…”

“…, 1 the lesion was described as a unique orbital tumour but, in an addendum, the authors also recorded a non‐orbital tumour in the buccinator fascia of the cheek in a 40‐year‐old man. More recently, there have been reports of 16 other extraorbital giant cell angiofibromas, 2–8 the main features of which are tabulated in Table 3. Most of these tumours had a rather long clinical history and occurred in adults.…”

“…A dacryocystectomy and medial maxillectomy were performed. Giant cell angiofibroma has also been described in the retroauricular region, submandibular region, 7 scapular region, 7 back, 8 axillary and groin regions, 9 parotid gland, 9 scalp, neck, mediastinum, 10 retroperitoneum, and vulva. 6 Two cases of GCA in the buccal mucosa have been described as well.…”
