“…Hypertrophied axillary breast tissue during pregnancy can be diagnosed as GG if growth has been rapid and incapacitating, as was the case in our patient 3 . Although the etiology of GG is not well‐established, it has been associated with hormonal hypersensitivity, hyperprolactinemia, and autoimmune disorders, although most patients do not have abnormal bloodwork 2,7,9,10 . Pedicled lipoma is less likely because it is primarily unilateral and less responsive to hormonal stimulation 11 .…”

“…Its direct relationship with pregnancy and, in some cases, with puberty, allows us to hypothesize a hormonal etiology 1 . The association of gigantomastia with diverse autoimmune diseases, such as myasthenia gravis, 8 systemic lupus erythematosus, 9 rheumatoid arthritis, 10 autoimmune thyroiditis 11 and the presence of autoantibodies, 12 supports the possibility of a role of autoimmunity. Our patient had autoimmune thyroiditis, autoantibodies and a family history of autoimmunity and presented with 1 crisis of the disease related to pregnancy and 2 unrelated to it, which makes us assume a different condition with purely hormonal effects.…”

“…There have been case reports suggesting an association with certain medications (such as penicillamine [2,3], bucillamine [4,5], cyclosporine [6], prednisolone [7], and cortisone [8]). Some case reports have demonstrated gigantomastia in patients with pre-existing autoimmune conditions such as myasthenia gravis [9], systemic lupus erythematosus [10], chronic arthritis, or thyroiditis [11]. However, many cases of gigantomastia are idiopathic.…”
