Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus-biomarkers as a diagnosis of the future • GDM-Gestational diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease more and more often diagnosed during pregnancy, causing health complications for both the mother and the child. Despite the known risk factors, which are largely responsible for the emergence of GDM, in some women, gestational diabetes is diagnosed for no particular reason. In most cases, glycemic control is associated with the use of insulin therapy, the need for repeated glucose measurements during the day and the maintenance of physical activity and diet. The diagnostic criteria in force are based on a glucose load test, which is the only laboratory method available at the moment. There is no other universal diagnostic method that would detect the risk of GDM in the population. The complex mechanism of insulin resistance, in which many chemicals participate, remains under the influence of the developing fetus and genetic conditions of the woman. The interest of scientists in the topic of GDM sheds a new look at pathogenesis and creates the opportunity to find a universal biomarker.
