Germinação, biometria de sementes e morfologia de plântulas de Guizotia abyssinica Cass

Abstract: RESUMO -O niger (Guizotia abyssinica Cass.) Show more

“…Importantly, these effects have been detected in a more drastic manner in typically smaller seeds, which is a criterion that fits the niger seeds, which are on average 4.54 mm long, 1.39 mm wide and 1.15 mm thick (Gordin et al, 2012). These seeds absorb water more rapidly, characterizing phase I of the seed hydration three-phase pattern and, after that period, also referred to as phase II, there is little or no water absorption, because the seeds cells can no longer expand, and it is possible to notice, already from this stage, the activation of metabolic processes required for embryo growth and early germination processes (Castro et al, 2004).…”

“…m -2 .s -1 ), using four replications of 50 seeds (Gordin et al, 2012). Evaluations were performed seven days after sowing, recording the germination percentage, taking into account the formation of normal seedlings (developed shoot and root system); germination first count held together with the germination test, counting the number of normal seedlings obtained on the third day after sowing, according to results obtained in preliminary tests; germination speed index, according to Maguire (1962); mean germination time, according to the formula proposed by Edmond and Drapalla (1958); and seedling length and dry matter by randomly choosing ten normal seedlings, measured with a digital caliper and dried in an oven at 65 °C for 72 hours, followed by weighing on a precision scale.…”

“…Oleaginous plants have been introduced as winter crops in Brazil, especially in the CentralWest region of the country, in areas previously under fallow; thus, niger ranging from 30% to 40% in oil content (Ghane et al, 2012;Ramadan 2012) has a great potential to be cultivated in this region (Gordin et al, 2012). The oil from niger seeds can be used for several industrial purposes, such as making soaps, paints, and lubricants, and can also be used as raw material in biodiesel production.…”
