The Tri Morave wine region is the largest wine growing region in Serbia with nine vineyard regions and a total surface area of 286,929.90 ha. It includes the areas around three big rivers in Central Serbia; the wide lower basin of the Zapadna Morava River, the lower basin of the Južna Morava River and the wider upper basin of the Velika Morava River. The unique terroir of this region is reflected in the diversity of altitudes and terrain inclination that gives it its specific character and recognition and provides an excellent basis for producing wines with geographical indication. The main goal of this paper is to present all of the essential elements of terroir in this region as well as their interaction and influence on grapevines and wine production.

This paper reviews the recent use of the term “geotourism potential” in the scientific literature and proposes a new approach to the concept of geotourism potential. The concept assumes that every geotourism object has the well-developed features that allow one to learn and understand the object’s structure, genesis and properties. A method for the application of this concept to any geotourism object is proposed. The procedure and guidelines for the compilation of geotourism potential are applied on the example—the Prządki Nature Reserve in the Flysch Carpathians, Poland. Based on the field research, the research results of other scientists, and the internationally accepted definitions of terms connected with geotourism, a definition of geotourism potential is presented for the first time in academic literature. The main results emphasize that only clearly exposed features within the geotourism object relate to geotourism potential, while educational potential and tourist infrastructure are not to be identified with this potential. The inclusion of a new procedure for use in geotourism research provides a comprehensive approach to the inventory of geotourism objects and the educational use of abiotic elements of nature, as well as biotic and cultural aspects related to geoheritage. The presented model has practical application in the design of geoeducational materials.

Geoeducational Value of Quarries Located Within the Małopolska Vistula River Gap (E Poland)

Formal and non-formal outdoor learning or field education is the most effective form of interpretation and promotion of geoheritage. Quarries make it possible to look back at the geological past of our planet, and, in many regions, they are the only places where we can observe the exposed bedrock. In E Poland, a considerable number of quarries are located within the area of the Małopolska Vistula River Gap. Herein, Upper Cretaceous, Palaeocene and Miocene marine rocks and Pleistocene sediments of varying origin were quarried. The location of quarries in the proximity of larger and smaller towns enables organising short school trips and conducting geography field classes. What is more, the importance of the town of Kazimierz Dolny, a popular tourist destination located in the northern part of the study area, provides opportunity for enriching the existing "traditional" tourism with offers of geotourism. In the study, the geoeducational value of 53 quarries was assessed by means of a method developed by the authors. This takes into account 20 criteria belonging to four groups of values (scientific, educational, tourist and functional). Additionally, significance was assessed from the perspective of three different audience groups (pupils, university students and non-specific tourists). The assessment made it possible to identify the spatial variation of the geoeducational potential of the quarries, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Measures were also identified to be taken in the future in order to increase the currently limited use of the quarries for educational purposes.
