Genotyping of ESBL Producing UropathogenicEscherichia coliin West of Iran

Abstract: Background and Objective. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in the world. Molecular fingerprinting of UTI isolates such as pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis using for Clonal distribution and determine of predominant type. The aim of the study was to determine genotyping of ESBL producing UPECs. Material and Methods. 200 UPEC isolates from outpatients with UTI were obtained. Antimicrobial susceptibility and interpretation were performed by disk diffusion. Virulence fact… Show more

“…Moreover, Mohajeri et al introduced piperacillin and ampicillin as resistant antibiotics and imipenem and nitrofurantoin as sensitive drugs (25). This finding was in line with the results of the present study; however, minor differences in the resistance level to other antibiotics were observed.…”

“…Mohajeri et al also reported the resistance rate of E. coli isolates to ciprofloxacin as 43% (25), which was lower than the resistance rate reported in the present study (77.5%). This could be attributed to the increasing emergence of resistant bacteria to wide-spectrum antibiotics.…”

“…Although the spectrum and frequency of antibiotic resistance among UPEC isolates is variable [ 24 26 ], most studies report that amikacin, nitrofurantoin and imipenem are highly efficacious against such strains [ 27 29 ]. Our study revealed co-resistance to third generation cephalosporins, quinolones, and aminoglycoside among UPEC isolates; this is similar to that of the study by Karlowsky et al [ 30 ], which also reported a high degree of co-resistance to ampicillin and SXT in UPEC isolates.…”

“…These data support the hypothesis that the TosA protein is a potential virulence marker in UPEC strains (Vigil et al, 2011a). Nonetheless, ESBL-producing clones associated with phylogenetic group B2 were only localized into the 532U clonal group of cluster III; likewise, the antibiotic resistance profiles showed that resistance to penicillin, beta-lactams, and cephalosporin was included in clonal group B2 (Mohajeri et al, 2014). …”
