Genosensor for SARS Virus Detection Based on Gold Nanostructured Screen‐Printed Carbon Electrodes

Abstract: A hybridization-based genosensor is designed on a disposable gold nanostructured screen-printed carbon electrode. Gold nanoparticles which are formed in situ by applying a constant current intensity during a fixed time, acts as an immobilization and transduction surface. The parameters affecting the methodology are studied, with special attention being placed on sensibility. Immobilization takes place through thiol-gold interaction in a relatively fast way, and the genosensor response is found to be linearly t… Show more

“…These important advantages of SPEs make them extremely attractive for diverse clinical applications, in both centralized and decentralized settings [45,46]. The use of SPEs for the development of DNA hybridization biosensors has been widely reported [47][48][49][50]. Considerable efforts have been devoted for enhancing the performance, particularly the sensitivity and selectivity of DNA hybridization biosensors based on SPEs.…”

“…The procedure to perform the enzymatic reaction of alkaline phosphatase has been previously optimized [19], and used in more recent works [23]. In this procedure the substrate (3-indoxyl phosphate (3-IP)), produces a compound able to reduce silver ions in solution into a metallic deposit, which is located where the enzymatic label AP is attached.…”

“…Although thick gold substrates are reported in the literature for enzymatic DNA detection (screen-printed gold electrodes [24], 2m thick film gold electrodes [25], or gold disk electrodes [26]), gold nanoparticles have been unusually used as electrochemical transducers [23], in despite of their widespread use as DNA labels due to the electrochemical properties of gold nanoparticles [27].…”

“…For instance, Martínez-Paredes and colleagues [19] proposed an electrochemical method to generate gold nanostructured screen-printed carbon electrodes. The developed electrochemical surface was applied to the detection of lead underpotential deposition and to the construction of geno- [20] and immunosensors [21]. NPAus works as an excellent adsorbent support, solving carbon limitations and enhancing biocompatibility [14].…”
