Genomic reaction norm models exploiting genotype × environment interaction on sexual precocity indicator traits in Nellore cattle

Abstract: Summary Brazilian beef cattle are raised predominantly on pasture in a wide range of environments. In this scenario, genotype by environment (G×E) interaction is an important source of phenotypic variation in the reproductive traits. Hence, the evaluation of G×E interactions for heifer’s early pregnancy (HP) and scrotal circumference (SC) traits in Nellore cattle, belonging to three breeding programs, was carried out to determine the animal’s sensitivity to the environmental conditions (EC). The dataset consis… Show more

“…In tropical beef cattle, animals are raised in a variety of production systems and exposed to a wide range of nutrition levels. These differences may cause genotype-environment (GxE) interaction on various productive traits [1][2][3] . GxE interaction occurs when the genetic variance and/or the classification of animals change according to the environment 4,5 .…”

“…In Nellore cattle, accuracies ranging from 0.23 to 0.63 were reported for age first calving [ 83 , 84 ] and from 0.25 to 0.67 for heifer early pregnancy, respectively [ 84 , 85 ]. Evaluations of age at puberty in Brahman and Tropical Composite indicated prediction accuracies varying between 0.20 and 0.50 [ 8 , 17 , 86 ].…”
