Genomes and seroprevalence of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus and Nairobi sheep disease virus in Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks and goats in Hubei, China

Abstract: A B S T R A C TTicks are medically-important arthropods that maintain and transmit numerous emerging viruses. China suffers severely from tick-borne viral diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), but the background of tick-borne viruses is very limited. Here we report the virome profiling of ticks and goat sera from SFTS-epidemic areas, and serological investigation of SFTS virus (SFTSV) and Nairobi sheep disease virus (NSDV). Results revealed divergent v… Show more

“…NSDV Hb-2019 was only identified in one library (SZWH2) of the H. longicornis ticks from Suizhou City and clustered together with NSDV strain Hubei ( Fig. 6A ), which was identified in the same tick species collected from Suizhou City with nt identities of 96.7 per cent (segment L), 96.8 per cent (segment M), and 95.2 per cent (segment S), respectively ( Yang et al. 2019 ).…”

“…The SFTS infectious disease was first reported in Hubei and Henan Provinces in 2010 and SFTSV was identified as the causative agent (Yu et al 2011). Since then, an increasing number of SFTSV strains were detected and/or isolated from ticks, animal hosts, and human patients (Hu et al 2018;Lee et al 2019;Park et al 2019;Yang et al 2019;Zhang et al 2011). Based on the comparison of SFTSV sequences, SFTSV evolution was found to be associated with geographic distribution (Yoshikawa et al 2015).…”

“…SRR9644024 and SRX6405658 ] [ 62 ], 1 tick data set [TK1612; accession no. SRR7985010 ] [ 63 ], and 1 rodent data set [XJ1607; accession no. SRP126625 ] [ 64 ]) were used as control data and annotated by the same pipeline (we did not use any blank negative controls, since sequencing library construction of them often failed [ 65 ]), and their VLSs were used as subjects in a BLASTn search of merged reads in this study.…”
