Abstract: Purpose Alopecia areata (AA) is one of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases affecting humans. Given that hair follicles are immune-privileged, autoimmunity can result in disfiguring hair loss. However, the genetic basis for AA in the Taiwanese population remains unknown.
