Genome Sequence of Rhizobium lupini HPC(L) Isolated from Saline Desert Soil, Kutch (Gujarat)

Abstract: The Rhizobium lupini strain HPC(L) was isolated from saline desert soil. It grows on minimal media supplemented with CaCO3 as a carbon source. It can also grow under both oligotrophic and heteroptrophic conditions. We report the annotated genome sequence of this strain in a 5.27-Mb scaffold.

“…Importantly, USA100 strains are a leading cause of invasive disease among MRSA isolates and represent the majority of vancomycin-resistant/-intermediate S. aureus isolates ( 8 , 9 ). In northern Europe, USA600 strains are the predominant human colonizers and were epidemic throughout Germany and the Netherlands ( 10 ). Recent reports noted increased detection and causation of lethal invasive disease by strains of this lineage in the United States ( 10 12 ).…”

“…An elegant study by Wang and co-workers, has demonstrated prophage DNA plays a significant role in host resistance to numerous stresses, including osmotic stress [ 57 ]. The phage-associated protein on SMG 25 shares 52% identity with a similar protein from Rhizobium lupini HPC(L) (100% coverage over 159 amino acids), Interestingly, this organism was recently sequenced following isolation from a saline desert soil [ 58 ]. Rhizobium species belong to the phylum Proteobacteria and, based on taxonomic assignment with MEGAN 4, proteobacterial sequences were found on all the larger scaffolds with an stlA homologue ( Figure S3 .)…”

“…ISTD04 revealed the presence of phosphoribulokinase (PRK) and other CBB pathway genes. However, the RuBisCo gene could not be identified in the genome assembly ( 12 ). The carbonic anhydrase, an important facilitator enzyme, is also present in the genome ( 13 ).…”
