Genetics of IL6 polymorphisms: Case–control study of the risk of endometrial cancer

Abstract: Background Endometrial cancer is the most common gynaecological malignancy. Cytokines gene may be important in endometrial cancer development. This study sought to investigate whether the IL4, IL6 two gene genetic variants were associated with susceptibility to endometrial cancer (EC) in Hainan Chinese Han women by a hospital‐based study. Methods The genetic polymorphisms for IL4 and IL6 were analyzed by Agena MassARRAY method. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by uncondition… Show more

“…In the current study, the levels of IL‐6 mRNA and protein were increased in EC patients. This finding was in concordance with research suggesting that IL‐6 is upregulated in endometrioid adenocarcinoma 36 . Other studies have provided evidence that elevated levels of IL‐6 significantly increase the risk of EC 14,37 .…”

“…This finding was in concordance with research suggesting that IL-6 is upregulated in endometrioid adenocarcinoma. 36 Other studies have provided evidence that elevated levels of IL-6 significantly increase the risk of EC. 14,37 Che et al 37 demonstrated the existence of an autocrine positive feedback loop in which IL-6 promotes EC cell proliferation that stimulates its production through the ERK-NF-κB pathway.…”

“…Five polymorphisms of IL-6 were studied as rs1800796, rs2069837, rs1524107, rs2066992, rs2069840. Among these SNPs, rs1524107, and rs2066992 were identified to have association with EC risk (Cai et al, 2019)…”

“…The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is the most common form of human genetic variations, which are significantly linked to the risk of tumorigenesis. It was reported that the polymorphisms in rs3783553, rs3783550, rs3783546, rs1609682 and rs3783521 of IL-1α ( 138 , 139 ), rs1524107 and rs2066992 of IL-6 ( 140 ), rs4758680 and rs7977932 of IL-31 ( 141 ), rs28372698 and rs12934561 of IL-32 ( 2 ) may be relevant to increased susceptibility to EC in Chinese women. Moreover, the CC genotype of IL-6 Gene (−174 & -572) might contribute to EC risk ( 142 ).…”
