A field experiments were conducted at Agric. Res. St. (latitude of 26.33° N and longitude of 31.41° E), Sohag Governorate, Egypt during 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons to find out the optimal of seeds rates (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 drills) and harvest ages (10, 11 and 12 months) for yield and quality of three sugarcane varieties "Saccharum officinarum L." (G.T. 54-9, G. 2003-47 and G. 2004-27). A split-split plot arrangement with three replications was used. The main-plots devoted for harvest ages, seed rates in sub plots, while, sugarcane varieties distributed in the sub-sub plots, in both seasons. Findings revealed that delaying the harvest age from 10 to 12 resulted in a significant increase in millable stalk height, diameter, number of millable canes/fed, cane and sugar yields/fed, along with brix, sucrose, and sugar recovery%, in both seasons. The results revealed that, planting sugarcane using 2.0 drills improved height, number of millable canes/fed, cane and sugar yields/fed. While, planting by using 1.0 drill improvised millable stalk diameter and quality characteristics in both seasons. Sugarcane variety G.2004-27 superiority in cane yield and millable stalk height and diameter compared to the variety G.T.54-9. While, G.2003-47 variety was superior in quality characteristics and sugar yield/fed. However, G.2004-27 variety attained greater number of millable canes/fed, in both seasons. Under conditions of this work, it is recommended to cultivate these sugarcane varieties by rates of 2.0 drills and harvest age to 12 months to achieve a high cane and sugar yields/fed.

Sugarcane is one of the main crops in Brazilian agriculture. It has high economic and productive potential, but its current productivity is still lacking due to poor nutritional management in both the soil and the plant. Zinc (Zn) directly affects tillering and plant growth, which are critical factors to sugarcane productivity and ratoon longevity. Thus, this research aimed to evaluate the effects of Zn chelate doses (185, 260, and 330 g ha−1) and two application methods (furrow and foliar applications) on the tillering, yield, and quality of sugarcane. The Zn chelate fertilization via furrow at a dose of 330 kg ha−1 provided increases of 13.59%, 17.6%, and 17.0% in stalk height (SH), stalk (TSH) productivity, and sugar (TPH) productivity, respectively. In contrast, Zn foliar application at a dose of 260 g ha−1 provided increases of 3.71%, 20.7%, and 17.0% in SH, TSH, and TPH, respectively. The optimal Zn chelate fertilization in sugarcane cultivation can be performed at a dose of 330 g ha−1 via furrow application at planting or at a dose of 260 g ha−1 via foliar application 145 days after planting.

Four promising varieties of sugarcane, along with the commercial variety, GT54/9 were evaluated for yield, yield components, and quality traits. The environments were different ages of harvest time (11, 12, and 13 months old) of two plant cane crops (2-years) at El-Mattana Agriculture Research Station farm during (2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons). The stability analysis of studied traits was performed. The results indicated that the promising varieties, environments, and their interaction had a highly significant effect on all studied traits in both the seasons except the age at the harvest time on purity in both seasons, the effect of the interaction on sucrose as well as a pol in second season only and on fiber in the first season only. It is obvious from the results that none of the tested varieties was superior to GT 54/9 for cane and sugar yield and stable implying the necessity of widening the genetic base to produce improved promising varieties. The stability analysis showed that GT 54/9 variety was stable for stalk height, stalk diameter, brix, reducing sugar, and fiber and recorded the highest cane yield and sugar yield. G2003/49 was stable for cane yield, sugar yield, brix, pol, and fiber. It ranked third in cane yield and the second sugar yield. The variety G2003/47 was stable for stalk diameter, sucrose, sugar recovery, and fiber and ranked fourth for cane yield and the third rank for sugar yield. G2004/26 was stable for stalk diameter, cane yield, reducing sugar, and fiber. It occupied the second and third ranks for cane yield and sugar yield respectively. G84/47 variety was stable for cane yield, sugar yield, brix, sucrose and fiber and ranked last for cane and sugar yield.
