Genetic variability, phylogeny and functional implication of the long control region in human papillomavirus type 16, 18 and 58 in Chengdu, China

Abstract: Background: Long control region (LCR) of human papillomavirus (HPV) has shown multiple functions on regulating viral transcription. The variations of LCR related to different lineages/sub-lineages have been found to affect viral persistence and cervical cancer progression differently. In this study, we focused on gene polymorphism of HPV16/ 18/58 LCR to assess the effect variations caused on transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) and provided more data for further study of LCR in Southwest China. Methods: L… Show more

“…FOXL1 is a member of the Forkhead box (FOX) superfamily and was reported to be dysregulated in various types of cancers [ 47 ]. PHOX2A was a transcription factor involving in cell proliferation and migration in lung cancer [ 48 ]. HOXA5 is a member of the homeobox (HOX) family and is upregulated in many types of tumors [ 48 , 49 ].…”

“…Nowadays, the sequence analysis of LCR is widely used for the classification of HPV16 DNA into the four major phylogenetic branches (Refs [135][136][137][138][139][140]. Specific intratypic nucleotide polymorphisms have been associated with A4 sub-lineage (A7729C and G7841A), B lineage (G7488A, C7688A, C7763T, C7785T and G7833T), C lineage (A7484C, C7488A, C7668T, C7688A, C7763T, C7785T, G7825A, G7833T, A7836C and G7838G) and D lineage (A7484C, G7488A, C7668T, C7688A, A7728T, T7742G, C7763T and C7785T) (Ref.…”
