Genetic variability, evaluation and characterization of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) germplasm

Abstract: Fifty accessions of sunflower germplasm were characterized and evaluated for seed yield and its components traits to study the variability present among different germplasm lines. Significant amount of genetic variability was observed for all the characters under study. Seed yield and hull content were identified for highest genotypic (27.08 and 20.14%, respectively) and phenotypic coefficients of variation (27.89 and 20.64%, respectively) and also for high heritability (97.46 and 97.28%, respectively) coupled… Show more

“…The estimates of phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were low for oil content (6.50/4.74), days to 50 % flowering (6.20/5.33) and days to maturity (3.91/3.49). These findings are in accordance with those of Dudhe et al [8] and Sree et al [9] for oil content and days to 50 % flowering and Singh et al [10] and Abu [11] for days to maturity. Whereas, phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were moderate for 100seed weight (15.15/12.92), plant height (14.97/14.01), head diameter (14.30/11.28) and volume weight (11.26/10.38).…”

“…(Table 5and figure1) Very high values of PCV and GCV were obtained for seed yield plant -1 (8.79 and 8.34%), 100-seed weight (4.87 and 4.53%) and stem diameter (4.81 and 4.41%), which indicates significant role of these characters in the improvement of breeding programmes. Similar results were obtained by (Reddy and Reddy 2006) [29] , (Kalukhe et al 2010) [14] and (Vivek et al 2019) [37] . Moderate levels of PCV and GCV were obtained for the plant height and oil% in the decreasing order of magnitude.…”

“…Klasifikasi plasma nutfah berdasarkan karakter agronomi memainkan peran penting dalam pemuliaan tanaman untuk memilih sumber daya genetik yang berharga yang akan digunakan dalam program pemuliaan (Singh et al, 2019). Karakterisasi morfologi adalah langkah penting untuk pemanfaatan plasma nutfah secara efektif (Santos et al, 2012).…”
