Agronomic performance of garlic is speculated strongly affected by genotype ´ environment interaction, however, interaction evaluation is rarely studied in Indonesia. This research aimed to study the agronomic response of four garlic varieties in two different locations. The research was conducted from April to December 2021 using Lumbu Putih, Lumbu Hijau, Lumbu Kuning, and Tawangmangu Baru genotypes grown in two locations, i.e., Lembang (1250 m asl) and Ciwidey (1200 m asl), Bandung, West Java using randomized complete block design with three replications. Results showed that genotypes ´ locations interaction was found for traits: plant height, pseudo-stem stem diameter, number of stomata, weight, and diameter of fresh and dried bulbs. Chlorophyll content (SPAD value) depends on genotype, height of fresh bulbs and percentage of weight loss depending on location, while number of leaves was independently affected by genotype and location. Lumbu Kuning produced the highest average fresh weight with considerable differences in both locations (Lembang: 52.01 g, Ciwidey: 31.87 g) and also had the highest weight of dry bulb when planted in Lembang (24.65 g). Pearson's correlation showed that the strongest positive correlation (r=0.91) was found between the weight of the fresh bulb and pseudo-stem diameter when garlic genotypes were planted in Ciwidey. The present study implies the importance to select suitable genotypes for a particular location. Keywords: genotype, environment, interaction, SPAD value, stomata, weight loss

During this study, 21 garlic genotypes consisted of ten clones of Egyptian cultivar, nine clones of Chinese cultivar, as well as their original populations were evaluated to estimate the extent of improvement in four yield component traits after six cycles of clonal selection. Also, simple phenotypic correlation among these traits and their relationship with yield. Besides estimating linear and quadratic responses (simple and multiple regression); to clarify the relationship between yield and the four studied characteristics. This research has been conducted at the Research farm of Faculty of Agriculture in "Abies" area of Alexandria University, Egypt, for 2020/2021 during the winter season, in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The studied traits were included bulb weight, cloves weight per bulb, average clove weight, cloves number per bulb, and yield per plot. T-test in group reflected a significant improvement in the four yield components traits, whether in the improved clones of Egyptian or Chinese cultivar. The results illustrated, also, that yield per plot showed a highly significant positive correlation with bulb weight, cloves weight per bulb, and average clove weight. Stepwise regression indicated that more than 98% of the variation in yield is explained by bulb weight, average clove weight, and cloves number per bulb. Thus, high yield of garlic plants can be obtained by selecting breeding materials with these aforementioned three variables.

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is the second most important Allium species next to onion (Allium cepa L. in the world and from Africa, Ethiopia is ranked second most garlic produce next to Egypt. It is one of the most important vegetable crops in Ethiopia and is used as a component of food, cash and has also a tremendous use in the formulation of local medicines. Among abiotic factors affecting garlic production and productivity using garlic genotype which is susceptible for different biotic and abiotic agents contributed huge yield loss in agriculture center. Therefore, this field experiment was conducted to assess the genetic variability in garlic genotypes, to determine association among traits and estimate the direct and indirect effects of traits on bulb yield. The field evaluation of 34 genotypes and 2 released varieties (G-HL and Chefe) was conducted in 6x6 Triple Lattice Design at Bishoftu Agricultural Research Center during January 2020 to May 2020. Results of analysis of variance revealed the presence of significant differences among genotypes for 18 traits. The variation observed among genotypes for bulb yield ranged from 43.80 to 147.20 kg ha-1. The six genotypes had mean performances higher than the highest performing check variety (G-HL=99.5Kg ha-1). Generally, the results of this study showed the presence of variations among genotypes for agro-morphology traits with a wide range of genetic distances that could allow selection and/or hybridization of genotypes after the results of this study are confirmed across locations and over the years.
