Genetic similarity among soybean (Glycine max (L) Merrill) cultivars released in Brazil using AFLP markers

Abstract: Genetic similarity among soybean genotypes was studied by applying the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique to 317 soybean cultivars released in Brazil from 1962 to 1998. Genetic similarity (GS) coefficients were estimated using the coefficient of Nei and Li (Nei and Li 1979), and the cultivars were clustered using the unweighted pair-group method with averages (UPGMA). The parentage coefficients of 100 cultivars released between 1984 and 1998 were calculated and correlated with the genetic … Show more

“…Bonato et al (2006) observed that the dendrogram obtained with AFLP markers was consistent with the pedigree of soybean genotypes analyzed. Priolli et al (2010) found that the clustering of 168 soybean cultivars obtained by UPGMA method, based on the information of SSR markers, were consistent with ancestors which are common among cultivars within the same group.…”

“…Alongside TGX 1987-10F, TGX 1987-20F and TGX 1910 yield performance were significantly high than the control (Bossier) in all locations. The low yielding ability of Bossier variety was previously reported by Bonato et al (2006). The mean performance of the genotypes across the location revealed that TGX 1908-8F had the highest number of seed per plant (66.11), followed by TGX1954-1F (52.00) and Bossier showed the lowest (41.22).…”

“…Segundo Faria et al (2007) o progresso genético direcionado em qualquer espécie está relacionado à existência de variabilidade genética. A soja é uma cultura que, pelos estudos de grau de parentesco e divergência genética, apresenta alta similaridade entre os cultivares desenvolvidos (BONATO et al, 2006;HYTEN et al, 2006;MIRANDA et al, 2007;WYSMIERSKI;VELLO, 2013).…”
