Genetic patterns of Streptococcus uberis isolated from bovine mastitis

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotypic relationships among 40 Streptococcus uberis isolated from bovine mastitis by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Additionally, the association between PFGE patterns and virulence profiles was investigated. The isolates exhibited 17 PFGE patterns. Different strains were found within and among herds; however, a low number of isolates within the same herd shared an identical PFGE type. No association between PFGE patterns and virulence profiles was fo… Show more

“…This indicates high population diversity among the S. uberis strains isolated from bovine mastitis in accordance with previous studies (LASAGNO et al, 2011;HAENNI et al, 2010;REINOSO et al, 2015;WANG et al, 1999WANG et al, , 2013. As discussed above, this diversity could be associated with environmental adaptations of this pathogen and its capacity to infect cows.…”

“…S. uberis, E. faecalis, S. agalactiae and S. dysgalactiae strains were additionally confirmed using molecular techniques as 16S rDNA RFLP (Jayarao et al., 1992; Khan et al., 2003). Furthermore, S. uberis strains were previously genotypically characterized by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and PFGE profiles were identified in separate studies (Reinoso et al., 2015; Moliva et al., 2017).…”

“…Different studies about biofilm production by mastitis strains have been reported [104,105]. Previously, we studied the biofilm formation ability of S. uberis strains the effects of several factors as additives and bovine milk compounds on biofilm production and the genetic variation among S. uberis isolates to establish relationship between virulence profiles and PFGE patterns [14,106,107]. The results showed that S. uberis isolates had a notable ability to produce biofilm at different degrees [14].…”
