Genetic mapping of cytological and isozyme markers on chromosomes 1R, 3R, 4R and 6R of rye

Abstract: Cytogenetic maps involving chromosomes 1R, 3R, 4R and 6R have been developed from the analysis of offspring of crosses between multiple heterozygous rye plants. The maps include isozyme loci GpiR1, Mdh-R1 and Pgd2 (located in chromosome 1R), Mdh-R2 (located in chromosome 3R), Pgm-R1 (located in chromosome 4R) and Aco-R1 (located in chromosome 6R). Various telomeric and interstitial C-bands of these four chromosomes, the centromere split of chromosome 3R, and translocation TR01 were used as cytological markers.… Show more

“…It is currently unknown where the exact breakpoints are on 6R which demarcate the translocation breakpoints of the 7R, 3R, and 6R segments. Alonso‐Blanco et al (1994) stated that the 3R and 7R segments on the 6R chromosome of their study represented 25 to 30% of the distal length of the 6RL chromosome arm. Studies are underway to determine this using the current deletion lines.…”

“…Most of them are restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers, along with a few A(amplified)FLP, isozyme, protein and randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers and a single simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker. Cytological and genetic maps have revealed that the majority of these molecular markers are located in the distal region of the 1RS chromosome arm (Alonso-Blanco et al 1994;. Ma et al (2001) concluded that no polymorphic marker is available between the centromere and the Cband designated as C1-1RS.…”
