Deletion Mapping of a Nematode Resistance Gene on Rye Chromosome 6R in Wheat

Abstract: Four deletion mutants of rye chromosome 6R were identified in progeny of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lines of ph1bph1b genotype and monosomic for chromosome 6R. The rye chromosome carried a resistance gene against the cereal cyst nematode (CCN) (Heterodera avenae Woll.) and this chromosome originated in triticale line T‐701 (× Triticosecale Witt.). The deletion mutants were selected on the basis of dissociation of three isozyme loci on the long arm of the rye (Secale cereale L.) chromosome. Three plants and t… Show more

“…Our data show that the transmission of 6RL was only 11%, which is comparable to that reported by Zhang et al (1995) and Dundas et al (2001). The low transmission of 6RL is most likely due to genetic imbalances imparted by the extra, foreign chromatin.…”

“…To date, at least three resistance genes were physically mapped on 6RL and were transferred into wheat through arm or segmental translocations, which included a nematode resistance gene CreR (Dundas et al 2001), H25 (Friebe et al 1991) and Pm20 (Friebe et al 1996 The markers with asterisks previously mapped by Saal and Wricke (1999) and Hackauf and Wehling (2003) were verified and the 15 additional markers were allocated in this study practical use is reported. Our data show that the transmission of 6RL was only 11%, which is comparable to that reported by Zhang et al (1995) and Dundas et al (2001).…”

“…Chromosomal rearrangements in alien chromosomes or wheat-alien translocations have been established as cytogenetic stocks [Friebe et al, 2000;Dundas et al, 2001;Tsuchida et al, 2008]. Unfortunately, cytogenetic stocks occur in only a few genetic backgrounds and, furthermore, do not necessarily carry desirable agronomic traits which has limited the commercial use of most wheatalien introgression lines [Lukaszewski, 2015].…”

“…A resistance locus, Cre , has been identified [8,15] and nine genes resistant to CCN (designated Cre1 , 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 , and R ) have been described, in which Cre1 and Cre8 were derived directly from common wheat [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. The Cre3 locus, which was derived from Ae.…”
