Allocation of a powdery mildew resistance locus to the chromosome arm 6RL of Secale cereale L. cv. ‘Jingzhouheimai’

Abstract: Chinese cultivar Jingzhouheimai of Secale cereale L. confers resistance to several important wheat diseases, making it a useful resource for wheat improvement. Octoploid amphiploid (2n = 8x = 56; AABBDDRR) was synthesized by hybridization of Jingzhouheimai with hexaploid wheat landrace Huixianhong and doubling of the F1 chromosome number. This amphiploid was backcrossed to the wheat parent to produce wheat-rye chromosome addition lines. The existing six disomic addition lines (all except 6R) were screened with… Show more

“…These results suggested that the Pm07J126 and PmJZHM2RL were unlikely to be the same gene. Similar to that of 07jian126, the Pm gene on 6RL of JZHM was also resistant to Pm at seedling and adult stages (Wang et al 2010). However, the reaction patterns of Pm gene on 6RL of JZHM to the Bgt isolates were unclear, and using the diagnostic markers which were linked to it, no corresponding DNA fragment could be amplified from 07jian126.…”

“…Using the wheat-rye addition lines developed by wheat landrace 'Huixianhong' and JZHM, two Pm genes had been recently found on chromosomes 2RL (PmJZHM2RL) and 6RL of JZHM, respectively (Zhuang et al 2011;Wang et al 2010). The PmJZHM2RL was susceptible to five Bgt isolates and hypersensitive to Pm at the adult stage (Zhuang et al 2011).…”

“…In addition, there were many new wheat-rye germplasms and powdery mildew resistance genes from rye were identified and reported. These Pm genes were located on 1R, 2R, 4Rand 6R chromosomes of rye, and their reaction patterns were different from the four known Pm genes Pm7, Pm8, Pm17, and Pm20 derived from rye (Li et al 2004;Hysing et al 2007;Tang et al 2008;Ren et al 2009;Fu et al 2010Fu et al , 2011Fu et al , 2014Wang et al 2009Wang et al , 2010Zhuang et al 2011;An et al 2006). In the present study, wheat cultivar Shaanmai 611 displayed highly susceptible to powdery mildew, wheat-rye addition line N9436B that contained 1R chromosome of Austrian rye showed immunity to powdery mildew.…”

“…Lee et al [2009] developed EST-derived 2RL-specific markers for a 2BS·2RL translocation and assessed their function. Wang D et al [2010] developed some ESTbased markers specific for 6RL and 6RS of Chinese rye cultivar 'Jingzhou'.…”
