“…PCV2c was further confirmed to be an extinct group of viruses, as no additional PCV2c sequence has been identified since the three PCV2c strains were initially reported . In a recent report from China, 68.2 % (45/66 samples) of the PCV2 positive samples were PCV2d (Wei et al, 2013), which confirms an earlier report implying PCV2d as the emerging and predominant PCV2 subtype in China (55 %; 22/40 samples) (Cai et al, 2012). Since the first identification of PCV2d in the US from a PCV2 vaccinated herd in 2012 (Xiao et al, 2012), the numbers of PCV2d sequences have increased considerably.…”

“…In China, PCV2 was first detected in 1998 in a pig population with a variety of clinical symptoms [31]. At present, PCV2a, PCV2b, PCV2d are the predominant genotypes in China, especially the PCV2b genotype [30]. Infection with PCV2 has been a very serious problem in China in recent years, and investigating the PCV genotype distribution will provide epidemiological information that will be beneficial for controlling disease in pigs in China.…”

“…PMWS is the most common form of porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVAD) and is characterized by wasting, decreased weight gain, dyspnea, jaundice and enlarged lymph nodes, as well as degeneration, necrosis of hepatocytes, multifocal lymphohistiocytic pneumonia, lymphocytic depletion and multinucleated giant cell formation [14][15][16]. Three open reading frames (ORFs -ORF1, ORF2 and ORF3) were recognized in the PCV2 genome [17]. While four genotypes of the virus were identifi ed (PCV2a, PCV2b, PCV2c and PCV2d), only three (PCV2a, PCV2b and PCV2d) are currently circulating and display a worldwide distribution [18].…”
