Genetic association of interleukin 18 (-607C/A, rs1946518) single nucleotide polymorphism with asthmatic children, disease severity and total IgE serum level

Abstract: IntroductionBronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease. Interleukin 18 (IL-18) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can influence IL-18 production and activity. IL-18-607C/A and -137 C/G are two of the commonly studied SNPs of IL-18 due to their role in the etiopathogenesis of allergic diseases.Aim of the studyThe case control study was conducted to investigate the genetic association between IL-18-607C/A polymorphism and pediatric asthma. Also attempts were made to evaluate the prognostic effect of … Show more

“…In addition, the inflammation reaction of asthma is mainly related to IgE-mediated type I allergic reaction; therefore, the secretion of IgE and related inflammation-related factors (IL-4, IL-5, IL-13) is up-regulated in the serum of asthma patients. 31 We then further detected the OVA-IgE and the secretion of these factors. The results confirmed that curcumol mitigated the up-regulated serum OVA-IgE, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 in chronic asthmatic mice.…”

“…Further on, these sufferers with the TT/TG genotype for this SNP were linked to a higher risk of asthma (OR = 6.417 and CI: 2.432-17.289). Moreover, incidence of the heterozygous GT genotype and T allele in this SNP was higher in asthmatic kids, and there was also no relationship between the intensity of asthma and this variant [40].…”
