Genetic Aspect of Free Plasma Amino Acids in Poultry

Abstract

Free plasma amino acid levels were studied in five pure strains of White Leghorns. Two blood samples were drawn from the birds at 125 and 500 days of age respectively. Multiple linear regressions were calculated to predict egg production from the free plasma amino acid levels. When the free plasma amino acid levels were measured at 125 days of age, R 2 values varied from 0.03 to 0.90, while R 2 values ranged from 0.01 to 0.87 when these parameters were measured at 500 days of age. Estimates of heritability for those parameters are also reported.
