Genetic analysis of an F2 intercross between two chicken lines divergently selected for body-weight

Abstract: Background: We have performed Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analysis of an F 2 intercross between two chicken lines divergently selected for juvenile body-weight. In a previous study 13 identified loci with effects on body-weight, only explained a small proportion of the large variation in the F 2 population. Epistatic interaction analysis however, indicated that a network of interacting loci with large effect contributed to the difference in body-weight of the parental lines. This previous analysis was, howev… Show more

“…The microsatellite markers associated with this region are ADL0107, MCW0183, ADL0180, and ADL0109. Previous studies have identified the numerous QTL affecting BW at different weeks or days of age in the above-mentioned region (Sewalem et al, 2002;Kerje et al, 2003;Siwek et al, 2004;Jacobsson et al, 2005;Zhou et al, 2006a;Atzmon et al, 2007Atzmon et al, , 2008Wahlberg et al, 2009). These results were in agreement with those reported in this study.…”

“…Growth is a very complex trait that is regulated by a number of genes and pathways, and more than 1500 quantitative trait loci have been found to be associated with chicken growth traits (Liu et al, 2008;Uemoto et al, 2009;Wahlberg et al, 2009;Gu et al, 2011). In the present study, 15 previously identified SNPs in GGA1 were detected using a custom Beadchip analysis.…”

“…However, some epistatic QTLs have been reported in chickens (Carlborg et al, , 2006Cheng et al, 2007;Wahlberg et al, 2009;Ankra-Badu et al, 2010;Tuiskula-Haavisto et al, 2010, Goto et al, 2011. These epistatic loci have substantial effect on phenotypic variance .…”
