Generating Renewable Energy from Municipal Waste Sector: A Comparative Study between Japan and Indonesia

Abstract: Although Indonesia has abundant resources to produce renewable energy (RE) from municipal solid waste (MSW), the implementation of waste to energy (WtE) concept remains low due to several factors. Approximately, 200,000 tons of MSW per day are generated in Indonesia. Improper waste management system in Indonesia is not only causing environmental problems but also inhibiting to get benefits from RE production. This study which was funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was conducted to obtain a… Show more

“…Perbandingan Tingkat Insinerasi Sampah Beberapa Negara Sumber : Ikeda (2017); Bakas, et al (2017) awal (Albores, et al, 2016). Bahkan teknologi terbaru yang diterapkan pada insinerator di Jepang mampu mengurangi volume sampah hingga 97,5% (Wahyudi & Novitasari, 2018). Selain itu, panas yang dihasilkan dari pembakaran sampah di insinerator dapat dikonversi menjadi energi baik panas maupun listrik.…”

“…One of the solutions to enhance sustainability is integrating landfill gas (LFG) power plants with the waste management system. The integration emits less GHG [9,10,11] and reduces the health risks of an open dumping system [12]. LFG from MSW could be utilized as an energy source due to its methane content [13].…”
