General Anesthesia versus Spinal Anesthesia for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Abstract: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy with low-pressure pneumoperitoneum with CO(2) can be safely performed under spinal anesthesia. Spinal anesthesia was associated with an extremely low level of postoperative pain, better recovery, and lower cost than general anesthesia.

“…Retention of CO 2 and hypoxemia were not observed in the spinal anaesthesia group during the procedure. This experience is similar to that noted by other study [9,10] and confirms safety of creating CO 2 pneumoperitoneum under SA. None of the patients of LC under SA were converted to GA.…”

“…Initially, absorption of CO 2 increases its elimination in the expired air, in the arterial and venous blood. [9,10] This carboxemia induces metabolic and respiratory acidosis which decreases arterial and mixed venous pH and arterial pO 2 . [11,12] In our study we noticed that the SpO 2 remained within normal limits for the patients undergoing LC under SA.…”

“…Post-operative pain as measured by the VAS score was in favor of group (S) throughout the post-operative period (1, 2, 4, 12 h) with pvalue= <0.001, while Gurudatta and Arif 's study [10], and Bessa et al study found that the difference was non-significant after 6 h 8 but Imbelloni et al showed significant difference at 2, 4, 6 h but nonsignificant difference at 12 h in his study comparing general and spinal anesthesia in laparoscopic cholecystectomy [13].…”

“…Laparaskopik kolesistektomi hastalarında ise genel anestezi altın standarttır. 7 Anestezi tekniğinin seçimin-de hedef; intraoperatif ve postoperatif dönemlerde yeterli arter kan basıncının sürdürülebilmesidir. Bu sebeple vakamızda genel anestezi uygulamasını tercih ettik.…”
