Gene chip technology used in the detection of HPV infection in esophageal cancer of Kazakh Chinese in Xinjiang Province

Abstract: This study was aimed to screen human papillomavirus (HPV) types associated with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma of Kazakh in Xinjiang using the gene chip technique and study the clinical significance of this application. The DNAs were collected from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissues and healthy esophageal mucosa of Kazakh adults in Xinjiang, and amplified firstly using HPV MY09/11 and then using HPV G5+/6+ to screen positive HPV specimens. These positive specimens were further detected by the gene … Show more

“…Currently, studies show a higher prevalence of HPV infection in patients with ESCC in Asia, compared to Europe and America (Ludmir, Stephens, Palta, Willett, & Czito, ). A study by Chen et al examined the ESCC samples of Kazakh from Xinjiang (China); HPV DNA was found in 66.67% of ESCCs (Chen, Yang, et al, ). Similarly, Dong and coworkers from China recently showed that HPV was present in 51.7% of the 89 ESCC samples (Dong et al, ).…”

“…In recent years, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission, tomography (FDG-PET), CECT and chip technology have been widely used in the diagnosis of human cancer ( 27 , 28 ). In particular, CECT and chip technology present more advantages than other diagnostic methods ( 29 , 30 ). However, the application of gene chip technology is restricted due to expensive detection and the professional analysts required ( 31 , 32 ).…”

“…Other methods involved in studies of HPV and ESCC include ISH and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) [27,31] . However, techniques based on high-throughput analysis are developing rapidly; gene chips and genome-wide association studies are also used in research [32,33] . Moreover, metaanalysis, a type of data analysis based on the results of previous studies, has been used to investigate the prevalence of HPV in ESCC [34][35][36] .…”

“…Studies from highrisk regions in China (Anyang, Xinjiang, Sichuan) indicated that there was strong evidence of an association between HPV and ESCC [31,32,37] . He et al [31] tested samples from 1,435 patients with ESCC from Anyang (China); the serological results demonstrated that the presence of HPV16 E7 was associated with an increased risk of ESCC.…”
