The massive spread of Coronavirus has badly affected the entire globe and lives of the people irrespective of age or gender. Children in this regard are no exemption. They are affected not only physically but also emotionally and mentally due to the virus and quarantine period. This study aims to provide a semiotic analysis of the visual representations of Covid-19 in the children’s book covers selected on a global level. These covers are new emerging literature and serve to narrate a global discourse related to COVID-19. The researchers have followed the qualitative approach and the data have been collected using purposive sampling technique to provide a holistic interpretation of the selected covers. Framework, selected for the study, is ‘Semiotic Analysis’ by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006). The findings revealed that the participants’ actions and overall circumstances in these covers are highly meaningful. The action narrative and colorful illustrations aim to motivate the young audience in a positive manner. Furthermore, they communicate a message of hope and urge them to fight against the virus. The visuals in these covers are therefore quite significant in their meanings and interpretations.

reflejado en las cubiertas de libros: traducciones de novela japonesa en España alba serra-vilella universitat autònoma de barcelona abstract: This paper aims to analyze the image of the Other in the covers of novels translated from Japanese and published in Spain from 1904 to 2014. Based on the idea that translations contribute to the formation of cultural images and that paratexts play an important part, this study comprises a content analysis of 432 covers and a qualitative interpretation of the obtained data, for which the notions of orientalism and polysystem have been useful. The results show that covers of Japanese translated books are strongly marked by stereotypes, reinforcing exoticism in the presentation of the Other through the use of traditional images, having recourse to femininity, anachronism and ukiyo-e. The results show that the use of tradition has followed a percentually decreasing trend in the last years, but femininity remains highly present without following a clear pattern. Exoticism provides a distorted image that may hinder understanding of the Other, being this contrary to the approaching of cultures which is one of the functions usually attributed to translation.

Gretha Wiid and Angus Buchan have established themselves as the moral gurus of the Afrikaner Christian community with their �Worthy Women� and �Mighty Men� mass conferences. Wiid is also often invited by the broadcast media to participate in TV and radio talks to discuss her views on relationships and sex � she is even invited by popular Afrikaans singers to share the stage with them. Recently, Gretha Wiid was again on the front pages of popular magazines to promote her and her husband�s views on sex and sexuality based �on the Bible�. She suggests that women hand over their sexuality, their bodies and their sexual decisions completely into the hands of men. Her view is that the husband is the king, prophet and priest in the family and should be honoured accordingly. The aim of this article was to use Wiid�s public appearances and publications as a case study to analyse her statements, hermeneutic principles and procedures and to demonstrate how her interpretation of sex and sexuality is infused by heteropatriarchal biblical discourse. The purpose of the article was to unveil the hermeneutic principles �ordinary� Christians such as Wiid apply in interpreting biblical texts and how these are culturally inscribed on women�s and children�s bodies.
