“…Our findings indicate that 38% of the general population is currently perceiving a form of psychological distress. Similar results were observed both in online surveys conducted on the Chinese population during the COVID-19 pandemic (Li et al, 2020) and among the Italian general population following previous natural disasters (Dell'Osso et al, 2013). However, the majority of subjects in our sample displayed no relevant distress.…”

“…[36][37][38][39] A significant correlation between lifetime mood spectrum symptoms (assessed by the MOODS-SR, lifetime version) and increased suicidal ideation and/or attempts has previously been demonstrated in patients with complicated grief, 38 similar to that observed in patients with PTSD. [40][41][42] Interestingly, in a previous study, 38 we found significant correlations between complicated grief and subthreshold manic symptoms, ryhtmicity/vegetative function items, and depressive symptoms on the MOODS-SR. These relationships remained significant after controlling for comorbid Axis I disorders.…”

A typical difference in the distribution between the two genders has been highlighted: if reckless driving, substance abuse and promiscuous sex appear to be more common among males, especially in adolescents, self cutting behaviors as well as lack of self care appear to be significantly more common in females (Dell'Osso et al, 2013a;Dell'Osso et al, 2013b;Carmassi et al, 2014;Dell'Osso et al, 2014). Similarly, these eating habits could represent atypical manifestations of stress exposure.…”
