Gauge-independent M S ¯ $$ \overline{\mathrm{MS}} $$ renormalization in the 2HDM

Abstract: We present a consistent renormalization scheme for the CP-conserving TwoHiggs-Doublet Model based on MS renormalization of the mixing angles and the soft-Z 2 -symmetry-breaking scale M sb in the Higgs sector. This scheme requires to treat tadpoles fully consistently in all steps of the calculation in order to provide gauge-independent Smatrix elements. We show how bare physical parameters have to be defined and verify the gauge independence of physical quantities by explicit calculations in a general R ξ -gaug… Show more

“…We completed the renormalization of the 2HDM Higgs sector in [37] by investigating Higgs-to-Higgs decays at EW next-to-leading order (NLO). Subsequent works [38][39][40] on the 2HDM renormalization applied different approaches and renormalization conditions, confirming our findings where they overlapped. 2 The renormalization of the N2HDM is more involved due to the additional mixing angles and the additional vacuum expectation value related to the singlet field in the broken phase.…”

“…One possibility is to use a modified MS scheme, cf. [37], where the counterterm δm 2 12 is chosen such that it cancels all residual terms of the amplitude that are proportional to 38) where γ E denotes the Euler-Mascheroni constant. These terms obviously contain the remaining UV divergences given as poles in together with additional finite constants that appear universally in all loop integrals.…”

“…Renormalization schemes for the 2HDM Higgs sector parameters have been discussed recently in refs. [69,70]. For our purposes it will turn out that the tree-level relations are sufficient.…”

“…The terms in (5) can be written in the mass eigenstate basis by applying the rotations from (18), (19) and (20) before employing the minimum conditions. From the terms linear in the C P-even components η 1 and η 2 we obtain the tadpoles…”

“…Details of the one-loop renormalization of the THDM have been discussed in various papers [14][15][16][17][18][19][20], with the emphasis of the more recent ones on the Higgs sector aiming at loop-improved predictions for Higgs-boson observables. The current status of precision observables is given by complete one-loop calculations which can be augmented in the subset of the SM loop contributions by incorporating the known higher-order terms of the SM; the non-standard contribution is of oneloop order and systematic two-loop calculations have not been done (Ref.…”
