“…Their cohort included a higher number of ER negative carcinomas than our study and Shield et al Another study performed on cell blocks showed sensitivity for GATA-3, MAM and GCDFP-15 to be 93.5 %, 22.4 % and 5.2 % respectively [18]. Surprisingly, GCDFP-15 performed much better in tissue specimens of primary and metastatic carcinomas staining 54.4 % of ductal carcinomas, 48.3 % of lobular carcinomas, and 81 % of apocrine mammary carcinomas [19]. When studied in ER negative carcinomas, Liu et al reported a sensitivity of 15 % [20] compared to our 50 % in ER negative carcinomas.…”

“…It was not therefore surprising that none of them expressed GATA3. However, some researchers have reported the opposite result, demonstrating GATA3 staining in apocrine carcinomas 18 45. The expression pattern of GATA3 in apocrine breast cancers therefore remains to be determined.…”

“…This percentage is lower than that reported by Miettinen et al 15 who considered any nuclear labelling for GATA3 as a positive result, while we used a 5% threshold for positive immunostaining. Wendroth et al 18 also used 5% as the threshold for a positive staining result for GATA3 and they obtained an even higher percentage (91.5%) for immunostaining tumours. The reason for this discrepancy is probably that they included a much smaller number of cases (153 cases in total) in their study.…”
