Gastric inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor treated with combined laparoscopic and endoscopic gastric wedge resection: a case report

Abstract: BackgroundInflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is an uncommon soft tissue neoplasm rarely reported in the stomach.Case presentationWe identified a tumor highly suggestive of poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma in the lesser curvature of the stomach of a 53-year-old female during screening endoscopy. Although the patient’s gastric biopsy did not reveal cancer, the tumor configuration was strongly suspicious for malignancy, and we performed a gastric wedge resection using a combined laparoscopic and endos… Show more

“…The treatment of IMT includes surgical resection, hormone therapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. 7 Most scholars believe that surgical resection is the treatment of choice, and radiotherapy or hormonal therapy can be administered in cases where complete resection is complex. The molecularly targeted drug crizotinib, which has emerged in recent years, has also shown good efficacy.…”

“…The most common sites are the mesentery, omentum, posterior peritoneum and pelvic cavity, followed by the lungs, mediastinum and head and neck (5-7), while its occurrence in the stomach is rare. Gastric IMT mainly manifests as a nodular mass in the stomach, which resembles a malignant tumor and is easily misdiagnosed (8)(9)(10). Features of gastric IMT are normally revealed by ultrasound gastroscopy and multi-slice spiral computed tomography (11,12).…”
