Gas-Sensitive Properties of Nitrogen-Rich Carbon Nitride Films

Abstract: Electronic noses based on polymer‐like carbon nitride (CNx) are investigated by these authors. The gas‐sensing properties of CNx are examined, focusing on the detection of humidity and ammonia. Two basic types of gas sensor—capacitance and microelectromechanical (see Figure)—are discussed. It is found that the sensors are highly sensitive, stable, and have short response and recovery times.

“…One of the attractive characteristics of the CNT is a very large adsorption surface area [15][16][17] Carbon nitride compounds have been studied in various area such as electronic devices, humidity sensor, and coatings because of their electronic and chemical properties [30][31][32] . They have various structures, depending on their carbon to nitrogen atomic ratio and arrangement.…”

“…Maekawa et al [10] developed technology of insulating CN x for the gate of TFT insulator where the composition comprising carbon nitride comprised hydrogen from 30 to 45 of atomic%. The particular interest as a novelty in material technology, the CN x films accrued to applications as humidity and gas sensors, what was presented by Zambov et al [11,12]. Lee et al [13] dependencies on relative humidity.…”
