Gas permeability analysis of photo‐cured cyclohexyl‐substituted polysiloxane films

Abstract: A photo-cured cyclohexyl-substituted polysiloxane (PDCHS) film was prepared and compared with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for the determination of permeability coefficients using various penetrants (H 2 , N 2 , O 2 , CO 2 , CH 4 , C 3 H 6 , and C 3 H 8 ). Penetrant sorption isotherms and local effective diffusion coefficients as a function of local penetrant concentration were also determined. The crosslink density of the films was measured via dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and was found to be 6.46 Â 10 … Show more

“…Polysiloxanes have been widely applied in textile, leather, construction, coating, cosmetic, and medicine industries because of their unique properties, 1−4 such as excellent air permeability 5 and hydrophobicity. 6 They are produced mainly by two routes: 7,8 hydrolytic polycondensation of dichloro-substituted silanes and ringopening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic monomers.…”

“…The polysiloxanes have the potential to exert good thermal stability because of the higher energy of the Si−O bond (460. 5 (304.0 kJ/mol) bonds. 14 There have been many studies on the thermal decomposition behavior of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS).…”

“…The methacrylic moiety brings crosslinking ability and the siloxane backbone gives flexibility. The crosslink density of cationic photocured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polydicyclohexylsiloxane(PDHS) cured by cationic UV-curing [47] were found to be higher than the crosslink density of the corresponding free radically photo-cured methacrylated PDMS and PDHS. This may be due to the rate of chain transfer of the initiated radical, thereby reducing the initiator efficiency.…”
