“…The differential diagnosis includes intracanalicular acoustic neuroma, Paget's disease, fibrous dysplasia, congenital malformation of the inner ear, otosclerosis, and vitamin A deficiency. The intracanalicular acoustic neuroma usually erodes the porus acusticus or the bone distal to it (Oliver et al, 1984). The absence of generalized bone involvement or increased serum alkaline phosphatase can eliminate Paget's disease from the diagnosis (Applebaum and Clemis, 1977;Edelken, 1981;Griffey, 1960;Nager, 1975;Proope etal., 1985).…”
