Garlic and Chlorella Biomodulate Lead Toxicity on Manganese Homeostasis in Carassius gibelio Bloch

Abstract: Environmental pollution negatively affects the aquatic ecosystems. Heavy metals are considered dangerous toxic elements for aquatic biota, as metallic elements or as salts which exhibit great stability. Among these, lead is toxic for all aquatic biotic components. Our research investigated the manganese distribution in tissue of Prussian carp fishes after lead intoxication, highlighted also the lead detoxifying potential of active principles from garlic and chlorella (powder). For our experiment 120 Prussian c… Show more

“…Applications of microalgae supplementation have been developed recently; for instance, Chlorella vulgaris has established to develop, immunity, aquatic remedy, stress enhancement, and disease resistance in fish (Nicula et al, 2018;Mekkawy et al, 2020;Sahin et al, 2014). C. vulgaris used as feed supplementation alleviated the negative effect of chlorpyrifos (CPF) exposure and maintained the growth performance and biochemical parameters (Abu-Srea et al, 2018) ,also, C. vulgaris modulated the expression of genes encoding antioxidant enzymes and stress immune-related genes (Zahran et al, 2020) in the Nile tilapia.…”

“…Like other substances, also Aloe ferox can determine the occurrence of acute or chronic diseases, depending on the dose, the administration duration, and the reaction of the body. [34] One of these plants' side effects is hepatic and renal insufficiency. In literature is described a case of a 47 years old man from Soweto, South Africa who developed acute oliguric renal failure and liver dysfunction after ingestion of an herbal remedy.…”

“…Uranium mining activity continues to be a major source of radioactive environmental pollution by producing huge amounts of low radioactive wastes heaped around the mining galleries and large quantities of wastewaters [1]. It is also present in the sea-water and it can contaminate the fish [2]. The radioactive pollution is also faced by other countries such as Serbia in the spa waters [3], Greece in the Axios River's case [4] and Italy in the building materials [5].…”
