Gammapy - A prototype for the CTA science tools

Abstract: Gammapy is a Python package for high-level gamma-ray data analysis built on Numpy, Scipy and Astropy. It enables us to analyze gamma-ray data and to create sky images, spectra and lightcurves, from event lists and instrument response information, and to determine the position, morphology and spectra of gamma-ray sources. So far Gammapy has mostly been used to analyze data from H.E.S.S. and Fermi-LAT, and is now being used for the simulation and analysis of observations from the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA).… Show more

“…Flare data from both Fermi-LAT and VERITAS was pre-processed in their respective analysis packages [6,7] and imported into the gammapy [8,9] gamma-ray analysis package for a joint spectral analysis. The null hypothesis models the intrinsic spectrum (Φ 𝑖𝑛𝑡 ) as an exponentially cut-off power law, and includes EBL effects such that Φ 𝑜𝑏𝑠,𝑛𝑢𝑙𝑙 (𝐸, 𝑧) = 𝑒 − 𝜏 (𝐸,𝑧) Φ 𝑖𝑛𝑡 (𝐸), where 𝜏(𝐸, 𝑧) is the EBL optical depth from [2].…”

“…𝛾 ray-like events have been selected using a multivariate analysis technique [12] and reconstructed with the ImPACT algorithm [13]. For the high-level analysis, we employed the Gammapy package (v0.17) [14,15] to carry out a three-dimensional likelihood analysis. To model the residual background of cosmic ray-induced air shower events, we utilised the approach outlined in [16].…”
