Gallstone Patients with Enhanced Oxidative Stress Biomarker Superoxide Dismutase (SOD1) Plasma Levels Have Significantly Lower Number of Postoperative Analgesic Oxycodone Doses: A Prospective Study with Special Reference to Cancer Patients

Abstract: The plasma SOD1 levels preoperatively and following surgery in the LC and MC patients versus cancer patients were quite similar. Cholecystectomy patients with enhanced levels of SOD1 appeared to have significantly lower number of analgesic oxycodone doses during the first 24 h postoperatively (NAD).

“…The second endpoint was to determine the correlation between the plasma catalase levels and NAD 24 in LC and MC patients. The quite similar median plasma catalase levels in the LC and MC patients support our earlier finding of similar ROS response to these two techniques (29)(30)(31). Interestingly, a highly significant inverse correlation between individual NAD 24 values and plasma catalase values postoperatively in cholecystectomy patients was found.…”

“…We also recently reported that cholecystectomy patients with elevated plasma concentrations of SOD1 and catalase appeared to have significantly lower analgesia requirement during the first 24 hours postoperatively (3,16). In this study, the most important finding was a weak correlation between plasma catalase concentrations and pain at rest and under pressure following surgery in patients with benign diseases and cancer.…”

“…e above two drugs have been used in abdominal surgery, and studies have shown that the sedative efficiency of dexmedetomidine in gastric cancer surgery can exceed 90% [9]. Research on the application of oxycodone hydrochloride injection in the anesthesia of gallstone surgery can effectively reduce the adverse reactions of anesthesia [10]. However, there is a lack of research on the combined application of two drugs for LC surgery anesthesia.…”
