FYO: A Novel Multimodal Vein Database With Palmar, Dorsal and Wrist Biometrics

Abstract: Multimodal biometric systems are preferred as a defense compared to unimodal systems. This study introduces an open access multimodal vein database named FYO with each letter dedicated to each author's name. The database involves three biometric traits; palm vein, dorsal vein and wrist vein of the same individuals, to explore and enhance research in the area of using these traits to create a spoof-proof multimodal authentication system. The vein images of FYO are acquired using medical vein finder in a control… Show more

“…There are many different methods and databases. Some of these are; Palmvein [110][111][112], putvein [113], dorsal hand-vein [114][115], multispectral palmprint [116][117], hand [118] and contactlesspalm [119] datasets and there are also new applications [120][121].…”

“…It is worth noting that PUT [9] and FYO [24] (FYOWV part), as far as is known, are the only existing public datasets: Singapore [25] and UC3M [26], collected respectively in 2007 and 2011, are privately-distributed and [27], UC3M-CV1 [4] and UC3M-CV2 [7] are, at this time, private datasets.…”

“…Some samples are shown in Figure 5. The algorithm was also tested on FYO palmar (FYO) database [18]and TongJi palmvein databse(TJD) [19]. FYO palmar database is a very challenging database, with only two images per hand, taken in two periods, one for testing and one for training.…”

“…The texture feature-based method [9][10][11][12][13][14] is to use the rich texture features of palm veins to extract features such as direction, amplitude, phase, and gray level for encoding. The depth learning-based method [15][16][17][18][19][20] mainly uses existing deep learning networks for vein recognition.…”
