Futsal task constraints promote the development of soccer passing skill: evidence and implications for talent development research and practice

Abstract: Both anecdotal and research evidence suggests that futsal could be a key developmental activity for soccer. Futsal task constraints (e.g., equipment and playing area) have been argued to promote the acquisition of perceptual-motor skills that positively transfer to soccer and, in turn, improve performance in soccer. However, a lack of empirical evidence in support of this argument limits current understanding. In this commentary, we discuss three studies that provide empirical support for the benefits of pract… Show more

“…Furthermore (Hamzah and Hadiana 2018) show that providing a problem-based learning model can improve the player's basic futsal passing skills. It is in line with (Oppici et al 2019), explaining that passing is the basis for forming an effective game pattern. Therefore, programmed training is necessary for improvement.…”

“…Therefore, providing a variety of exercises is very important to adapt, stimulate recovery, avoid severe fatigue, potentially in the long term, and maximize performance in individuals so that it will increase effective work results (Pérez-Castilla et al, 2018). In addition, providingtraining 5vs5 game allows individuals to align their abilities with the surrounding environment which determines the development of their ability to form coordination patterns for achieving their goals (Oppici et al, 2019).…”

“…Currently, some engineering students complete their studies with insufficient innovation consciousness. They lack the capacity to solve problems with unknown situation, and are insufficiently prepared for the realities of their future professions [5]- [7]. Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China issued "Several Opinions on Strengthening Organized Scientific Research in Universities and Promoting High-level Self-reliance" in 2022 [8].…”
