Digital Twins (DTs) have witnessed a paramount increase in interest in multidisciplinary engineering systems. With advancements in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methods and implementations, DT-based maintenance and operation stages have been implemented significantly during the life cycle of civil infrastructure. Recent literature has started laying the building blocks for incorporating the concept of DTs with SHM of large-scale civil infrastructure. This paper undertakes a systematic literature review of studies on DT-related applications for SHM of civil structures. It classifies the articles based on thematic case studies: transportation infrastructure (i.e., bridges, tunnels, roads, and pavements), buildings, off-shore marine infrastructure and wind turbines, and other civil engineering systems or assets. The proposed review is further uniquely sub-classified using diverse modelling approaches such as Building Information Modeling, Finite Element Modeling, 3D representation, surrogate and hybrid modeling used in DT implementations. This paper is solely focused on applications relating DTs to SHM practices for various civil engineering infrastructures, disregarded implementations in the fields of manufacturing, aerospace, education, health, and others, and deals with all technological advancements used in this specific field of study hence highlighting its novelty over previous reviews. Gaps and limitations emerging from the systematic review are presented, followed by the articulation of future research directions and key conclusions.

The application of metaverse technology in the field of civil engineering has the potential to improve project efficiency and accuracy. Nevertheless, the pervasive adoption and effective integration of metaverses are contingent on a number of crucial factors. This study investigates the critical factors underlying the successful implementation of metaverse technology within a business context. This research employs a comprehensive mixed-method approach comprised of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) to examine survey responses gathered from seasoned professionals in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors in Bangladesh. In areas such as communication and collaboration, design visualization, and monitoring and maintenance, the construction industry has made extraordinary strides. As imperatives for managerial consideration strategic investment in resources, targeted training initiatives, heightened awareness campaigns, and prudent deployment of cost-effective and efficient metaverse-based solutions emerge, future investigations should include a larger sample size and an evaluation of the lasting effects over extended time periods. The key to unleashing the full potential of the metaverse within the architecture, engineering, and construction industries lies in addressing these identified success determinants, thereby ushering in enhanced project outcomes and enhanced efficiency within the constructed environment. The combination of these initiatives is expected to pave the way for a new era in the AEC landscape.

The popularity of the Metaverse has rapidly increased in recent years. However, despite the attention, investment, and promise of the Metaverse, there are various cybersecurity issues that must be addressed before the Metaverse can truly be adopted in practice for serious applications. The realization of the Metaverse is envisioned by many as requiring the use of visualization technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). This visual aspect of the Metaverse will undoubtedly give rise to emerging cybersecurity threats that have not received much attention. As such, the purpose of this survey is to investigate cybersecurity threats faced by the Metaverse in relation to visualization technologies. Furthermore, this paper discusses existing work and open research directions on the development of countermeasures against such threats. As the Metaverse is a multidisciplinary topic, the intention of this work is to provide a background of the field to aid researchers in related areas.
