Further Theoretical Insight into the Mechanical Properties of Polycaprolactone Loaded with Organic–Inorganic Hybrid Fillers

Abstract: Experimental/theoretical analyses have already been performed on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) loaded with organic–inorganic fillers (PCL/TiO2 and PCL/ZrO2) to find a correlation between the results from the small punch test and Young’s modulus of the materials. PCL loaded with Ti2 (PCL = 12, TiO2 = 88 wt %) and Zr2 (PCL = 12, ZrO2 = 88 wt %) hybrid fillers showed better performances than those obtained for the other particle composition. In this context, the aim of current research is to provide further insight … Show more

“…Experimental methodologies and CAD-FE modeling have always played a crucial role in the analysis of the mechanical behavior, stress and strain distributions in different fields [11,[23][24][25][26][27]. As widely reported, the use of a dental post with a high modulus material alters the biomechanical behavior of a restored tooth [4,12,13].…”

“…The important role of CAD-FE modeling and experimental methodologies to analyze the mechanical behavior, stress and strain distributions, has been recognized in different fields [29,[37][38][39][40][41][42]. The biomechanical behavior of a restored tooth is altered if a dental post with high modulus construction material is employed and vertical root fractures generally occur [3,34].…”

“…The inorganic/organic hybrid materials prepared by sol-gel technique have high surface-to-volume ratio and nano-scale phase domains. [14][15][16][17] The important thing is to select an appropriate organic phase, which must have functional groups to react with organosilanes and must be compatible with the sol-gel process. Unfortunately, many biodegradable polymers cannot be easily introduced in the sol, but PBSu has been found compatible in the sol-gel process.…”
