This article aims to study the relationship between the cultural, historical and artistic heritage and its importance to the development of local tourism. As an object of study was approached the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos, in Congonhas-MG, the value style and size as art, history and culture. A city built on gold cycle Minas eighteenth, today Congonhas belongs to Royal Road Circuit and Villages and Farms of Minas Circuit. It has a rich heritage of expressive baroque artist largest of its kind in Brazil: Antonio Francisco Lisboa, the Aleijadinho. The Sanctuary was inscribed in the book of great significance Fine Arts in 1939 by IPHAN. Recognition as world heritage by UNESCO took place on December 06, 1985. The data analysis is related in interviews by professionals of culture, tourism and applications forms for tourists and locals.
