Functional Textiles with Smart Properties: Their Fabrications and Sustainable Applications

Abstract: Benefiting from inherent lightweight, flexibility, and good adaptability to human body, functional textiles are attracting tremendous attention to cope with wearable issues in sustainable applications around human beings. In this feature article, a comprehensive and thoughtful review is proposed regarding research activities of functional textiles with smart properties. Specifically, a brief exposition of highlighting the significance and rising demands of novel textiles throughout the human society is begun. … Show more

“…Structural color applied to textiles has attracted increasing attention worldwide, [105] but has mostly been developed using building block nanoparticles which limit the response range and elasticity. Fibers, as the basic unit of fabrics, can determine the fundamental characteristics of textile products, so they are considered the basis for conferring stimulus‐response to photonic fabrics.…”

“…Modern smart E-textiles present the revolution of modern functional textiles for intelligence area; 38 they provide intelligent features and use a connection with a smartphone or tablet to borrow computing power. Sensors and computers are flexible, light, easy to wear and even fashionable in electronic textiles with the invisible circuitry can be mostly giving the wearer a sense of discretion as most circuits embedded in textiles (Figure 4).…”

“…Any minor damages might deteriorate the conductive property of smart fabric and even affect their normal applications. Inspired by regenerating ability of organism surfaces, the introduction of self-healing function into the coating of smart fabric electronics will allow function recovery from damages and extend the service life. , For example, Chen et al developed the self-healing multifunctional hybrid coating consisting of octadecane-loaded titanium dioxide nanocapsules, graphene, and multibranched PU, the resulting film showed self-healable capability after damage, thus prolonging its service life. It is well accepted that PU just has such a self-healing property owing to the presence of dynamic reversible noncovalent or covalent bonding .…”
