Functional Identification and Characterization of the Brassica Napus Transcription Factor Gene BnAP2, the Ortholog of Arabidopsis Thaliana APETALA2

Abstract: BnAP2 , an APETALA2 ( AP2 )-like gene, has been isolated from Brassica napus cultivar Zhongshuang 9. The cDNA of BnAP2 , with 1, 299 bp in length, encoded a transcription factor comprising of 432 amino acid residues. Results from complementary experiment indicated that BnAP2 was completely capable of restoring the phenotype of Arabidopsis ap2-11 … Show more

“…The above four constructs were used to transform B. napus cultivar Zhongyou 821 by an Agrobacterium ‐mediated gene transformation method (Yan et al ., ). T 0 transformants were first subjected to Basta‐ or kanamycin‐based selection, and rooted well in selective medium.…”

“…This transcription factor belongs to the AP2/ERF family and is important for flower and seed development [ 71 ]. In Brassica napus , BnAP2 RNAi lines have delayed flower abscission and senescence [ 72 ]. In tomato, AP2 RNAi lines have altered levels of ethylene biosynthesis and differences in the timing of fruit ripening [ 73 ].…”

“…Members of different subfamilies were reported to display distinct DNA-binding activities. Members of the AP2 subfamily could recognize the sequence GCAC (A/G) N (A/T) TCCC (A/G) ANG (C/T) (Krizek, 2003 ; Yan et al, 2012 ). Many DREB proteins had been shown to bind to a dehydration-responsive element (DRE)/C-repeat (CRT) element [A/G)CCGAC] (Park et al, 2001 ; Zhang et al, 2014 ).…”
