Full Software Radio transceivers

Abstract: This paper presents the current status and trends in research on Full Software Radio (FSR). Concerning the receiver path after defining Software Defined Radio (SDR) versus FSR a new version of the Sampled Analog Signal Processor (SASP) is presented and experimental results are discussed. The new version doubles the signal bandwidth while the power consumption is reduced to less than 100 mW. For the transmitter path, a new FSR architecture is presented based on Riemann's algorithm and a charge pump. A GaN demon… Show more

“…Software Radio (SR) is a concept proposed by Mitola, where the signals are to be demodulated almost completely in the digital domain. These kinds of receivers offer flexibility and a very high degree of reconfigurability, allowing a wide cover of RF spectrum and thus, can challenge the carrier aggregation issue imposed by telecommunicaiton industry [1]. But, Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) is the technological the bottleneck: it imposes very high operating frequency with high resolution which lead to a power consumption not compatible with handsets.…”
