Full‐Face Cryo‐ (Liquid Nitrogen) Peel

Abstract: Full face liquid nitrogen cryo spraying of actinically damaged skin accomplishes not only depth-controlled destruction of individual actinic keratoses, but also destruction of surrounding, barely perceptible actinic keratoses, removal of unsightly pigmented surfaces, and removal of seborrheic keratoses and large lentigines. Cryo-peeling imparts a healthier, pinker, smoother, tighter skin surface.

“…Although cryotherapy is a method widely used in clinical practice, few studies using cryopeeling technique have been conducted so far [3, 6, 7]. Despite the fact that the focal ablative methods are considered effective options, a more recent concept related to “field of cancerization” treatment has guided the treatment of multiple actinic keratoses.…”

“…Cryopeeling is a technique that uses cryotherapy in a diffuse manner throughout the skin region affected by sun damage in order to promote cell renewal and desquamation, with possible benefits in the appearance of new lesions caused by photodamage. Few studies were performed evaluating cryopeeling technique until now [3, 6, 7]. The results obtained with cryopeeling treating actinic keratoses were satisfactory and more effective than 5-fluorouracil.…”

“…Furthermore, cryopeeling when compared to other full treatment modalities fared favorably with respect to efficacy, accessibility, ease of application and masterability, patient acceptance, cost, and cosmetic results. 1 The method has evolved to produce consistent, long‐lasting results with little patient discomfort during and after the procedure. It has produced significant cosmetic improvement with the elimination of hyperpigmentation, lentigines, seborrheic keratoses, sebaceous hyperplasia, etc., and even the removal of fine wrinkles (Figures 1–3).…”

“…Plastic surgery techniques, including blepharoplasty and rhitidectomy, and dermabrasion, have been a part of the medical scenario and conceivably will remain. Full face cryopeeling can eliminate precancerous lesions and also improve texture, wrinkles, and pigmentary problems associated with photoaging 80 . Dermabrasion or surgical skin planning is used to improve the skin's contour as new collagen and epidermis replace the abraded skin.…”
