Coping strategies have been studied as protective factors against stress for individuals. However, the psychometric properties of the most widely used coping self-report questionnaires, the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS-21), have not been examined in a sexual minority population (men and women that identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual or LGB). In this study, we conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) simultaneously to assess the factor structure of the CISS-21 questionnaire in LGBs. Also, we tested the measurement invariance of CISS across sex and sexual identity in the LGB sample (N = 2850, 52.00% woman, mean age = 32.46 years). The results show that a four-factor structure consisting of task-oriented coping (TOC), emotion-oriented coping (EOC), distraction-oriented coping (DOC), and social diversion-oriented coping (SOC) explained the data best. The results also show acceptable internal consistency reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Subsequently, multi-group analyses established measurement invariance across sex and sexual identity. These results indicate that the CISS-21 could be used as a simple, reliable, and valid scale for measuring coping strategies in LGBs, and that it allows valid score comparisons from different sex and sexual identity groups.

У пациентов с хронической мигренью (ХМ) внутренняя картина болезни включает три основных аспекта: когнитивный (мысли, убеждения, установки о боли), эмоциональный (настроение) и поведенческий (стратегии преодоления боли). Внутренняя картина влияет на течение ХМ, прогноз и личность пациента, поэтому ее оценка, понимание и коррекция лежат в основе мультидисциплинарного подхода к лечению. Цель исследования -оценить когнитивные, эмоциональные и поведенческие характеристики пациентов с ХМ. Материал и методы. В исследование включено 200 пациентов с ХМ (63 мужчины и 137 женщин; средний возраст -33,1±7,1 года). Со всеми пациентами проводились беседа и тестирование, направленные на оценку их клинических, когнитивных, эмоциональных и поведенческих характеристик.Результаты. Выявлены высокие уровни таких показателей, как катастрофизация симптомов (84%), автономные ощущения (89%), непереносимость телесных ощущений (71%), переоценка выраженности симптомов (91%), телесная слабость (68%). У всех пациентов отмечены неправильные представления о причинах головной боли, у большинства (80%; n=160) -ошибочные негативные представления о прогнозе. Почти у всех пациентов была высокая ситуативная (95%; n=190) и личностная (90%; n=180) тревожность, симптомы депрессии разной степени выраженности (95%; n=190). Преобладали неадаптивные стратегии совладания с болью: копинг-стиль, направленный на избегание (87%; n=174); эмоционально-ориентированный копинг (76%; n=152). На выборке из 20 пациентов выявлены значимые (p<0,05) связи катастрофизации симптомов, автономных ощущений, переоценки выраженности симптомов, тревоги и депрессии со стратегиями совладания. Заключение. У большинства пациентов с ХМ внутренняя картина болезни включает негативные и ошибочные представления о головной боли, клинически выраженные симптомы тревоги и депрессии, неадаптивные стратегии совладания. Между когнитивными, эмоциональными и поведенческими характеристиками выявлены значимые связи, что подчеркивает обоснованность и перспективность использования когнитивно-поведенческой модели боли при лечении ХМ.

Capturing Change: Validation of the Client Change Scale with the Correctional Service of Canada Community

Ideally, when an individual enters the Criminal Justice System there is a belief and expectation that they will, over time and through intervention, change from the individual who perpetrated the crime(s) to a law-abiding citizen, upon being released to the community. However, there are currently few measures of justice-involved person (JIP) change that have established validity with regards to predicting post-program or post-release outcomes. The Client Change Scale (CCS) is a risk-relevant, desistance-oriented approach consistent with the Transition Model of Offender Change . The purpose of this research was to validate the CCS with a sample of 390 JIPs under community supervision by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). The mixed-method, retrospective file reviews suggest that the CCS reflects acceptable psychometric properties, predicts, and in some cases incrementally predicts, post-release outcomes. The findings suggest that the CCS also has utility with predicting supervision type (discretionary versus statutory) and differentiates based on programming assignment status. The qualitative findings suggest that the information available in the Offender Management System (OMS) at CSC is sufficient for scoring the items on the CCS, though the sources of information vary depending on the constructs. The results are promising and support prospective studies using the CCS in both programming and supervision contexts with larger samples, including women and diverse JIP samples. Taken together, the CCS appears to be a useful new assessment of change that will help decision-makers to make more defensible and accurate decisions regarding transfers to reduced security, discretionary release, programming requirements, and supervision needs.
